Helpful Tips
Buy an Andante card at the airport metro station and load it with Z4 credit for smooth metro, bus, and tram rides across Greater Porto.
Use the Metro line E (violet) from Aeroporto to Trindade in 25, 30 minutes, faster and cheaper than a taxi into the city center.
Download the official STCP app to buy and validate mobile bus tickets and see real-time arrivals for every route in town.
Ride the historic Tram 1 along the riverfront from Infante to Passeio Alegre for scenic views and a direct link to the Foz district beaches.
Common Scams to Avoid
Unlicensed taxi touts inside Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport's arrivals hall quote inflated flat fares to downtown Porto. Insist on using the official taxi rank outside or pre-book through the airport's licensed ride-hailing partners.
Some private transfer desks inside the terminal advertise "fixed-price" rides that are significantly higher than metered taxis or metro tickets. Compare the displayed fare with the metro's purple line (direct to city center) before agreeing.
Currency-exchange kiosks just past baggage claim advertise "no commission" yet bury poor rates in the fine print. Use the ATMs in the landside hall or exchange only a small emergency amount until you reach downtown banks.
